Snake Bites Piercing: The Complete Guide

Snake bites are two separate piercings placed symmetrically below the lower lip, each about a third of the way in from the mouth's corners. Each channel exits inside the mouth and wears its own flat-back labret stud — or, after healing, a pair of rings that hug the lip for the full serpent effect.

Symmetry is the entire aesthetic, which makes marking the pair the most important minutes of the appointment. It all subsides within the week — but clear your calendar of first dates and presentations.

Snake bites heal in 6 to 12 weeks, and both sides need the full routine: sterile saline outside twice a day, alcohol-free mouth rinses after eating, gentle brushing, and no cigarettes or straws in the early days. Two piercings does not mean double the work — the same rinse covers both — but it does mean two chances for an irritation flare, and sides frequently heal at different speeds.

The downsize at 2–4 weeks matters doubly here. Long posts on both sides of your mouth mean four contact points against teeth and gums; snug posts cut that risk and finally make the pair sit flush and symmetrical. Long-term, the same oral-piercing honesty applies as with any labret: internal discs can contribute to gum recession over years, so keep jewelry smooth, snug, and checked at the dentist.
